TERRY DEVIS REFERS TO KARABAKH CONFLICT
Support A1+!CoE Secretary General Terry Devis has pursued a “queer” policy with regard to the Karabakh conflict. He doesn’t reveal his stance on the recent elections to the self-government bodies.
Devis’ silence in view of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic is weird as he had condemned all former NKR elections which were found compliant with European standards by independent observation missions.
During today’s meeting with the CoE Secretary General journalists asked Terry Devis to comment on the CoE position regarding the recent elections.
“I don’t have time to refer to all events happening in the world. Silence is the best way to express one's disapproval,” he said.
The regime of the Nagorno Karabakh is not recognized world-wide. My silence does not necessarily mean that I don’t condemn the recent elections and endorse them.
“There is a great difference between Kosovo and Karabakh. There is no “separation regime” in Kosovo. I fully realise that some circles want to be separated from Serbia but the Government doesn’t want it,” Devis said. He drew parallels between NKR and Abkhazia finding common features between the two countries.
According to the CoE Secretary General, the Karabakh conflict resolution lingers.
“I want to criticize neither the OSCE Minsk Group nor the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan. But the quicker the conflict is settled, the better for the two peoples. There are more important things in life. The Karabakh conflict diverts public attention and absorbs great sums which could otherwise be used for other purposes.”
The CoE Secretary General also referred to Armenia’s commitments and their implementation. “Obviously, there is progress but the commitments are still on paper. They should be implemented,” he said.
