“TER-PETROSYAN IS TROUBLED WITH THE SITUATION IN THE COUNTRY”
Support A1+!Ter-Petrosyan is going on meeting with various political representatives. His last meeting was yesterday with Vazgen Manukyan and Ashot Manucharyan. Stepan Safaryan, member of the “Heritage” party welcomed the meetings of the first president. “I welcome that initiative. A true rivalry is missing in our political field. We have a number of political powers, but we do not have major powers and any initiative on this regard is welcomed. We are obliged to provide the society with alternatives, which is hard to do”.
In Stepan Safaryan’s opinion, Ter-Petrosyan may be an alternative for the society: “The political power and the experience that Ter-Petrosyan possesses, allows him to be an alternative. I am not the right person to talk about Ter-Petrosyan’s path. His has quite rich capacities, but I cannot predict what he will reach”.
Stepan Safaryan does not consider that all powers whom Ter-Petrosyan meets will join him, and considers political consultations wanted and necessary: “I would like to abolish the stereotype, which is criticized when the opposition conducts consultations with the authorities. Unfortunately, it is admitted in Armenia that the opposition should collaborate with authorities and the authorities are a group of corrupted. That is not so”.
To motivate the necessity of collaboration, Stepan Safaryan brought the example of negotiations on Nagorno-Karabakh problem between Armenia and Azerbaijan. “There was a time when Ter-Petrosyan talked about continuing the negotiations and was concerned about their process. Negotiations are the instruments to security. If negotiations are in the process, then none of the parties wishes or has the right to think of other possible solutions of the problems. The same is about the contacts with political field. We should agree the rules of the game for the safe development of the happenings, so that we will not appear in the situation on 12-13 April”.
“Judging from what you said we may suppose that the situation in the country is so terrible, that Ter-Petrosyan has to take certain measures to correct the situation”. Answering to the question of “A1+” Stepan Safaryan said: “The situation in the region isn’t promising for Armenia. Ter-Petrosyan is seriously concerned with it and his speech on 21 September reflected his concerns. I consider that Ter-Petrosyan is returning to the political field since he is troubled with the situation in the country”.
