IS SERGE SARGSYAN LEVON TER-PETROSYAN’S ALTERNATIVE?

Politics

“The first president of the Republic Levon Ter-Petrosyan may propose a serious program on economic development to today’s authorities”, said the former RA Prime Minister Hrant Bagratyan, who ensured the journalists that only Ter-Petrosyan’s team might carry out economic reforms.

The Head of the “National Democratic Party” Shavarsh Kocharyan considers that Ter-Petrosyan’s candidature is advantageous for Serge Sargsyan, and the latter will win since people will remember energetic crisis, social situation and Karabakh problem and comparing with today’s situation they will elect Serge Sargsyan.

To the question who would elect Bagratyan if Ter-Petrosyan ran for presidency, Mr Bagratyan noted that 2007 parliamentary elections proved that the programs of opposition parties conceded to the program of the “Armenian Republican Party”. Thus, to the direct question of A1+ whether he would vote for Serge Sargsyan, Mr Bagratyan answered: “If Sargsyan follows the program of the “Armenian Republican Party”. That is a serious program”.

Bagratyan pointed that certain articles of the Constitution would be put into force only in case Ter-Petrosyan is elected. As an example he brought depriving the businessmen from the mandate of deputies. Bagratyan considered 121 steps to bring the economy into live. “Only Ter-Petrosyan’s team can do that”. He also ensured that in 1995 when they were governing the economic growth and the level of education was higher than today.

Shavarsh Kocharyan declared that he would not like Ter-Petrosyan to be nominated as the united candidate of the opposition. As to the Nagorno-Karabakh problem, Shavarsh Kocharyan reminded Ter-Petrosyan’s interview in 1992, when he announced that the best solution was to give self-determination right to Karabakh as a part of Azerbaijan. Bagratyan stated that neither Ter-Petrosyan nor Kocharyan will cede Karabakh. “Time has worked against us during the last ten years”, concluded Bagratayan.
