TERRY DEVIS TO PARTICIPATE IN YELTSIN’s FUNERAL
Support A1+!The Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Terry Davis, flew today to Moscow, where he will pay his respects to Boris Yeltsin, the deceased former President of Russia. Under Mr Yelstin's Presidency, Russia became a member of the Council of Europe in 1996.
Later in the afternoon Mr Davis will travel to Kyiv for a working visit, at the invitation of President Yuschenko, and will continue the dialogue with the leaders of the country. In the last two weeks the Secretary General has met in Strasbourg Prime Minister Yanukovich, Speaker of Parliament Moroz and senior envoys of President Yuschenko. Tomorrow in Kyiv, the Secretary General will also meet the leaders of the opposition, the Ukrainian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and representatives of civil society.
Relations with the Council of Europe and the assistance and co-operation activities of the Organisation in Ukraine will be high on the agenda of the meetings.
