KARABAKH DOESN’T LACK CANDIDATES

Politics

Peter Semneby, EU Special Representative for South Caucasus, won't visit the NKR this time, but he promises to do it during his next regional visit.

After 1.5 hours' talk with NKR President Arkadi Ghoukasyan, Peter Semneby voiced hope that the conflicting sides might finally come to an agreement. “The sides only need to change their stances in view of the conflict settlement”, Mr. Semneby says.

The EU Special Representative for South Caucasus claims that the international community expects the sides to display political will power to accept the OSCE Minsk group’s proposals.

“EU can make use of certain lingers to contribute to the negotiation process and to support the co-chairs' endeavors”, Semneby adds.

NKR President Arkadi Ghoukasyan said; “We mainly touched upon concrete programs during our talk. Karabakh is ready to cooperate with the EU and this cooperation can be viewed in the context of Karabakh conflict regulation as well. I don't think we shall be able to create fruitful conditions for the conflict settlement in the nearest future. There is no mutual trust between Karabakh and Azerbaijan as Azerbaijan instigates hostility towards Karabakh world-wide. The matter will find no settlement unless Karabakh is constructive and Azerbaijan is deconstructive”.

It is noteworthy that Arkadi Ghoukasyan has decided to take a rest. “I exclude the possibility of holding any post in Armenia. I am determined to stay in Nagorno Karabakh.” While speaking of the country’s interior state, Mr. Ghoukasyan noted that the struggle will be tense between 3-4 candidates as “Karabakh doesn’t lack candidates.”
