ANNOUNCEMENT OF “ASPAREZ” OVER THE MURDER OF HRANT DINK

“We mourn the premature death of Hrant Dink, a leading journalist, writer and editor of Agos newspaper.The impudent step of the Turkish extremists comes to prove that the right of free expression and diversity of opinion are completely breached in the Turkish reality.

We are convinced that the assassination of Hrant Dink is conditioned by the blind and permissive rejection of historical facts within the realms of official and non-official Turkey.

We assume that the arrest of the murderer will be the start for Turkey to acknowledge the facts of historical importance with dignity and not merely the subsequent relevance of similar murders.

We voice hope that the loss of Hrant Dink will be the last among the denials of the Armenian Genocide. It is high time they understood that the attempts to silence the freedom of expression only enhance and encourage it.

We join millions of people who condole over the death of Hrant Dink and express our deep regret in this respect.
