HRANT KHACHATRYAN RESIGNED

Faithful to the promise made two days ago, Hrant Khachatryan resigned from the post of the President of Constitutional Right Union. He announced that the decision was made by himself without any pressure from anyone. He added that with this step he is trying to save the status of CRU, the territory of CRU, the newspaper “Iravounq” and the reputation of the CRU officials.

After the resignation Hrant Khachatryan represented several demands. He demanded not to dismiss those journalists of «Iravounq» who had this or that position. He advised founder and editor-in-chief Hovhannes Galajyan not to engage in organizational issues as he is not gifted in them, and to make Vigen Hakobyan editor-in-chief of the newspaper.

Besides, Hrant Khachatryan said that he will not take away the name of CRU as in that case the Government would take away their territory which is very important for the existence of «Iravounq». He only announced that he would keep the mandate of deputy and will try to protect the members of CRU and «Iravounq».

Asked the question if after his resignation CRU might change its orientation and become pro-governmental, Hrant Khachatryan said that there is no CRU; there is only «Iravounq» which will never lose its face.

As for Hayk Baboukhanyan, he said he is very sorry for his friend, «I did everything possible to prevent this step, but all in vain». By the way, «everything possible» included his own resignation for three months which he did not do. «I was elected by the conference with 95% of votes, and I have no right to violate their decision». Hayk Baboukhanyan agreed with us that there is a crisis of honest politicians in the political field, but he did not have any suggestions in that respect.

The last thing Hrant Khachatryan had to do was to take away his own library and to pay his small debt to the party.

By the way, many of the party members cried while he left the conference hall.

Despite anything, Hrant Khachatryan said that he founded a nice custom in the political field: to keep your promise, even at the expense of heavy losses. Nevertheless, he himself does not think he has lost much.
