HOGLAND MAY COME TO ARMENIA REGARDLESS OF THE SENATE'S POSITION
Support A1+!Today the highlight of the Armenian-American relations is the appointment of the US Ambassador to Armenia.
In this connection the positions of the Armenian and American authorities differ greatly. Today the participants of the debate on “Armenian-American relations: challenges and prospects” initiated by the National Press Club referred to this theme.
The opinions of Kiro Manoyan, member of Dashnaktsutyun Party, head of the Armenian office “Armenian Case,” Petros Makeyan, leader of the party “Democratic Homeland” and Hmayak Hovhannesyan, freelance deputy didn’t coincide. Kiro Manoyan claims that regardless of the assignment of the ambassador, the Armenian-American relations are perfect. In this respect Mr. Manoyan attaches great importance to the Armenian lobby. Due to that lobby, Armenia was left out of the dangerous list The country joined that list after the terrorist attack of September 11. Kiro Manoyan also welcomes the act of the USA government while rendering financial assistance to Nagorno Karabakh. As for the new ambassador’s appointment, Mr. Manoyan says that the White House may seize the opportunity of the Senate’s forthcoming holiday and appoint Richard Hogland as the US Ambassador to Armenia without waiting for the Senate’s voting.
Petros Makeyan disagrees with Kiro Manoyan and says that the Armenian-American relations are far from being perfect and they are still getting worse.
All the three guests agreed that the USA apparently supports Georgia in the region as, in Kiro Manoyan’s opinion, “Georgia seeks this support. And do we seek it?” Kiro Manoyan claims that the issue is connected with regional integrity. Thus, Armenian-American relations must be viewed taking into account Armenian-Russian relations.
