If Azerbaijan tries to waste time in the negotiation process of the settlement of the Karabakh conflict, RA will recognize the independence of NKR. This announcement the RA President made yesterday became the theme of the discussions during the briefings of the parliamentary fractions. «In my opinion this means to declare war», the head of the Republican party fraction Galoust Sahakyan said. According to him, «we must not be afraid of war», although the Armenian side does everything to avoid it.

«Armenia has factually accepted the issue of recognizing Karabakh, and considered it part of himself», Sahakyan says. But from the diplomatic point of view he thinks the recognition of NKR would not be right at the moment. Galoust Sahakyan considers that it is not the solution of the problem but can cause unwanted talks.

According to the head of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation fraction Levon Mkrtchyan, Kocharyan answered adequately to the military announcements from the Azeri side and in particular to Ilham Aliev himself who tries to exercise moral pressure by means of different threats. According to Mkrtchyan, “The RA Supreme Council had adopted a most important decision prohibiting to sign any document which would recognize Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan. That is to say, the important legislative step had been taken before the start of the negotiations”.

Levon Mkrtchyan claims no one can threaten the Armenian nation with a war, although if it is launched, Azerbaijan will be the losing side: they will have either to sing and agreement of capitulation or to recognize the independence of Karabakh.

Member of the Orinats Yerkir fraction Mher Shahgeldyan said he refrains from using the word «if» as the negotiations are still underway. In any case, according to him, it is undesirable to start a war.

Member of the National Unity Aghasi Arshakyan considers the words of Kocharyan as «attempts to distract the society from internal problems». Secretary of the Justice fraction Viktor Dallakyan thinks that the ghost of the question «War or peace? » wanders in Armenia. He also added that they are for peace with dignity.
