SECURITY STRATEGY IS BEING PROCESSED

Today the work of the Committee coordinating the processing of the National Security Strategy project was officially started. The head of the Committee is the co-chair of the Armenian-Russian Economic Committee, the President of the Chess Federation, the Secretary of the Security Council attached to the RA President, the President of the Yerevan State University Council, and the Defense Minister Serge Sargsyan.

Today he made a speech for the Coordinating Council and represented the “skeleton” of the security concept. After working on it for a year in 2007 the document will be represented to the Government. In case it is approved in will go to the Parliament.

Underlining the importance of the security strategy document, Serge Sargsyan noted that seven-eight officials have different opinions about the same issue and brought as an example the disagreement of the officials in connection with Turkey. According to him, this is conditioned by the absence of the security strategy document.

Asked a question by “A1 ” why we do not have a security conception by now, Serge Sargsyan answered, “We won independence only a couple of years ago and adopted the Constitution five years after it. These are documents requiring time, patience and hard work”.
