The declaration of the Azeri officer Ramil Safarov who axed the Armenian officer Gourgen Margaryan as «Man of the year» by the National Democratic party of Azerbaijan was evaluated by the RA Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanyan as compliant with the style of Azerbaijan. «It is a pity that a murderer can be declared «man of the year», and the fact is not condemned by the head of the country. It means that Azerbaijan is still far away from the peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict», he said.
According to the Minister, suchlike announcements cannot create an atmosphere contributing to the peaceful settlement of the conflict. «Today we have a serious lack of trust. The two nations do not trust each other which makes the settlement still more complicated».
Of course, the Azeri authorities can announce that it was not them but only a party which declared Ramil Safarov «Man of the year», but Mr. Oskanyan invited attention to the fact that the Azeri authorities do not condemn the fact, moreover, they greet it.
The Commissioner for External Relations and European Neighborhood Policy Benita Ferrero-Waldner informed that she is not acquainted with the case and cannot tell anything in connection with the declaration.
