DEPUTIES DID NOT UNDERSTAND THEMSELVES HOW THE OMBUDSMAN WAS NOT ELECTED

Politics

Today the majority of the Parliamentary deputies were shocked when it turned out that Armen Haroutyunyan, the candidate put forward by the majority, had not been elected Ombudsman by closed poll.

By the way, not only the majority, but also Armen Haroutyunyan himself was in an unenviable situation. It is noteworthy that a number of deputies congratulated him before even the results of the elections were clear. Before the publication of the results Armen Haroutyunyan suddenly left the hall in order to avoid comments.

As for the course of voting, the representative of the National Unity Aghasi Arshakyan who was member of the counting committee recorded several cases of fraud. In particular, member of the Republican party Yerem Karapetyan and member of the Orinats Yerkir party Sayad Zakharyan tried to vote open, but Aghasi Arshakyan did not allow them to cast the ballots in the box and simply tore them apart.

Brother of Hovik Abrahamyan John Abrahamyan took photo of his ballot by his phone and represented it to the head of the counting committee Gagik Meliqyan. By the way, representative of the oppositional Justice fraction Edmond Tsaturyan followed the course of elections seriously.

About thirty minutes after the start of the elections when Aghasi Arshakyan actively hinder the realization of the violations, someone called his cell phone and demanded his to leave the hall. Arshakyan answered angrily, “Who do you take me for?” and left the corridor without commenting on what had happened. Those present thought Artashes Geghamyan had phoned, but later trustworthy sources claimed that “it was not Geghamyan, but I cannot tell you who it was”.

By the way, head of the Republican party fraction Galoust Sahakyan announced that it was a surprise for him and said that his fraction had participated in the elections.

Same was the answer of the head of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Levon Mkrtchyan. He informed that all the members of the fraction had participated in the poll. Head of the Orinats Yerkir fraction Samvel Balasanyan informed that the poll was closed, so there is nothing to be surprised about, we must simply accept the results of the poll.

Secretary of the oppositional Justice fraction Viktor Dallakyan announced that the elections will prove there are serious developments in the coalition. “I think Ruben Torosyan had enough votes in these circumstances”, Viktor Dallakyan said and noted that the majority must draw conclusions and taking into consideration the opinion of the minority.

Head of the United Labor Party fraction Gourgen Arsenyan announced that the poll was free but all the five members of the party voted for Armen Haroutyunyan.

Secretary of the grouping «Democratic Deputy» Vahram Baghdasaryan noted that their sympathy was for Haroutyunyan, but the poll was free. Member of the grouping Hakob Hakobyan informed that he was against both, he would have been for Paruyr Hayrikyan.

By the way, the majority of the 13 invalid ballots were recognized invalid because their authors deleted both names; for example, member of the Justice fraction Albert Bazeyan deleted both names and wrote «Larissa Alaverdyan» instead.

Nevertheless, the most important thing is why the majority did not want to or did not manage to forge the results of the elections. We managed to find out that when the members of the counting committee started to phone and congratulate Armen Haroutyunyan and announced in a closed session that Haroutyunyan was elected, representative of the Justice fraction Edmond Tsaturyan announced «Nothing has been elected, we have only 69 ballots here», threw the ballots away and left the room. That's to say factually the factor of oppositional deputies had its influence on the results of ht elections.

Another important fact noted by many was that Robert Kocharyan is not in the Republic.

By the way, the coalition will discuss the situation tonight, and the Justice fraction will do it tomorrow morning.
