CULTURAL WORKERS TURN TO THE GOVERNMENT

Cultural workers and representatives of non-governmental organizations participated in the discussion with the theme «Must the post of the Minister of Culture be political». The members of the NGO «Community and Right» which had initiated the discussion were unanimously for a depoliticized Minister of Culture.

Head of the Isahakyan cultural council of the Orinats Yerkir party Gegham Meliqsetyan considered the issue urgent. He had to explain away only because the Government has given the post of the Minister of Culture to the Orinats Yerkir party. Gegham Meliqsetyan did not miss the opportunity to complain of the cultural situation of the country saying that now, as 15 years ago, the country does not have a cultural concept.

Head of the Democracy and Labor Party Spartak Meliqyan finds it necessary to have a depoliticized Minister of Culture. «The only way to solve the issue is to turn to the President of the country and ask him to appoint a Minister who is a cultural worker and does not belong to any political party». This offer was put into execution.

The Democracy and Labor Party prepared an application to Robert Kocharyan and the RA Government. A number of Cultural, political and non-government workers signed the application.
