“WAR STILL CONTINUES”

Politics

The head of the Azeri delegation to PACE Samed Seidov answers the question of “A1+”.

- How do you appreciate the role of CE in the process of settlement of the Karabakh conflict?

- CE is one of the unique international organizations which found the nerve not only to appoint a reporter of the Karabakh issues, but also to prepare a report. It is a good one and is compliant with all the international standards. Our task is to carry out the recommendations. I think the ad-hoc Committee on Karabakh issues will continue its work, and the CE representatives will come to Armenia, Azerbaijan and Karabakh. It is not yet known when.

- Do you expect any progress from the forthcoming meeting of the Armenian and Azeri Presidents?

- It would be wonderful to find the peaceful settlement of the conflict, but unfortunately it is still too early to speak about it. We really want to preserve the potential of the peaceful settlement. Caucasus needs peace. Caucasus needs development. And the sooner we find the peace, the closer Caucasus will be to Europe.

- Do you think the Armenians and the Azeris will ever have the relations they had, say, 20 years ago?

- I think nothing has changed. Simply while there is no peaceful settlement, the war factually continues. Besides, the atmosphere is conditioned by the influence of considerable outside powers.
