ENEMIES FOREVER?

Politics

«Both the Azeris and the Armenians want to see Karabakh as part of their countries. And we (Russia) want peace. Solve the problem without us, for Heaven's sake. You can't. Never. The neighboring countries cannot become friends. Never. The Georgians and the Abkhazians, the Armenians and the Azeris are enemies forever. There is only one solution – war, but that's what you don't want. I am both for Armenia and for Azerbaijan, but that won't give us anything. Neither in Abkhazia, nor in Nagorno Karabakh, nor in any other place», the head of the Russian Liberal Democratic Party Vladimir Zhirinovsky made this prediction in Strasbourg.

The prediction was done during the press conference. As for the session, during the discussions «About the violation of human rights in Chechnya» he warned the Europeans that it is impossible to live with mountain-dwellers, be it in Chechnya or in Karabakh. In answer to the discontent of the Armenian journalists in the pres conference, Mr. Zhirinovsky said that the people are not guilty; simply the living conditions made them what they are.

Zhirinovsky says that Armenia is the strategic friend of Russia, “and it must be protected in different issues”, but Armenia must buy the gas with higher prices, “in order not to make the Ukrainians and the Georgian angry”. “We’d better establish the same prices for everyone, otherwise they will see a political background in everything”, he commented.

But Zhirinovsky has a special offer: Armenia buys the gas expensive, for the average European prices, but gets compensation instead “for the transportation expenses of the expensive fuel”. “Armenia and Belarus are our good friends and I would not like our relations to become worse”, Vladimir Zhirinovsky announced.

By the way, Mr. Zhirinovsky considers both the Karabakh conflict and all the other conflicts in the area of the ex Soviet Union the result of communism. Today a report about communist totalitarian regime will be discussed in the PACE, and if it is adopted, according to Zhirinovsky, “January 25 will be a festival for him”.

On April 25 Vladimir Zhirinovsky invited all the journalists present at the press conference to Moscow, to celebrate his 60th anniversary in Kremlin.
