IS KOCHARIAN READY TO RESIGN?
Support A1+!According to political scientist Stepan Safaryan the most disputable provisions in the constitutional amendments are the ones on the President’s immunity and on the change of state borders.
Without disclosing the sources, Safaryan stated that the President is ready to resign in case of assuming immunity. Stepan Safaryan reminded of the words OSCE Minsk Group U.S. Co-Chair Steven Mann, who said that in 2006 no elections are planned in Azerbaijan and Armenia and the leaders of both states are close to find a resolution to the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. “The 1.5 million people announced as those, who voted in the referendum, will be a mine for the incumbent. The West will show it believes that 1.5 million people support the leadership in the Karabakh issue. The Key West treaty is still in force,” Safaryan said.
Stepan Safaryan also noted that the Armenian translation of the assessment of the 14 European observers greatly differs from the original version, which did not contain much positive information. The only positive assessment refers to the technical organization of the referendum which has nothing in common with the outcomes. In Stepan Safaryan’s opinion, new crisis in the juridical system may appear. “After the election no single members of the election commissions,” he noted.
