NATIONAL MINORITIES ARE NOT OF THE SAME OPINION
Support A1+!The main provision of the Constitutional amendments which proved attractive for the National Minorities Council of Armenia is the following, “Discrimination of gender, race, color of skin, ethnic or social origin, language, religion, political views, belonging to any national minority, or of nay other kind... is prohibited”.
Representative of the Greek community of Armenia Slava Rafaelidis claimed that the Greek community will say “Yes” to the Constitutional amendments. “With this provision the rights of the representatives of the national minorities will be defended”.
Head of the Jewish community of Armenia Rima Varzhapetyan finds the adoption of dual citizenship extremely important. «Israel accepts dual citizenship too, and the first condition is to be a Jew». She found it difficult to say how the community will vote, but she claimed that the she herself will say «Yes».
The Kurdish community too will say «Yes» to the draft. According to the representative of the community Knyaz Hasanov, the draft will contribute to the development of the economy of the country, and all the citizens, including the national minorities will make use of it.
Head of the Ezidi community Aziz Tamoyan said that he himself has translated the draft into their language in order to keep the representatives of the community aware of the amendments. According to him, the most important provisions of the draft are that everyone has the right to preserve their national and ethnic autonomy, and that the arrested person has the right to get acquainted with the accusation in his own language.
The Ukrainian community of Armenia has not got acquainted with the draft yet. Member of the community Nadezhda Pasyuk informed that they have been distributed the Russian version of the draft, and after reading they will see what to do.
And the representative of the Greek community Edward Polatov said that no one has the right to speak on behalf of the community, even its head. He claimed that the National minorities will not vote unambiguously in the referendum. “I am in general against any agitation. Every person must himself get acquainted with the draft and decide how to vote”, he said.
