ELECTIONS HELD IN AZERBAIJAN

Politics

The Parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan on November 6 did not give any surprises: everything was as it was supposed to be. First of all, none of the 6 oppositional leaders was elected as deputy. According to preliminary information, there are less then 10 oppositional deputies among the 125 in the Parliament.

According to the data of the Azeri Central Electoral Committee, 46.83% of the total number of electors has participated in the elections. «At present 71 complaints have been sent to the CEC. The majority of them are anonymous messages», said the Azeri CEC President. According to him, on the whole the elections have been organized at a proper level.

The head of the Democracy American Center Rachel Erenfield and Democracy Institute expert doctor Radishevski have already informed the journalists about their observations of the elections. They have appreciated the elections as positive and mentioned that «the overall picture was merrier than they had imagined».

By the way, the November 6 elections also recorded an interesting fact: the wife of the Azeri President Mehriban Alieva was elected deputy of the Milli Mejlis. 92.59% of the citizens who participated in the elections voted for her.
