Support A1+!“The referendum does not have sense without exchange of opinions,” Chairman of the National Self-Determination Union Paruyr Hayrikyan considers. However this circumstance did not prevent Hayrikyan from supporting the amendments.
Today Democracy NGO chairman Vardan Poghosyan joined the debates organized in Zerkalo Club. He stated that the constitutional amendments as compared to the operating constitution appear as progress. However “yes” or “no” will depend on the policy the authorities will pursue. “I am going to support the amendments if the leadership provides equal conditions for the voters.” The debates participants are convinced that the referendum should proceed in the atmosphere of political consent, which id absent in Armenia. In this view Vardan Poghosyan is inclined to blame the opposition. “As a matter of fact the authorities are not absolutely glad with the amendments. The fact is that the CoE is determined and the opposition has lost its chance,” he said. He reminded that after the draft amendments were adopted in the first reading the Venice Commission noted in its conclusion that that the RA authorities should take into consideration their recommendations, which accorded with the proposals of the opposition. In Poghosyan’s opinion, the opposition should have returned to the NA and officially submit the proposals. He thinks that in case the referendum fails we can have a good draft till 2008.
