EUROPEANS CONSIDER THE ELECTIONS “FAIR AND PEACEFUL”

“The elections were generally correspondent to the Europeans standards”, announced head of the delegation of the CoE Local and Regional authorities Congress Sean O’Brian today during the press conference in hotel “Ani”.

The delegation has come to this conclusion as the impression of its members about the atmosphere of the elections was «fair and peaceful». Sean O’Brian also considered the process of elections in Tavoush, Armavir and Lori pleasing. The Congress delegation observed the course of elections on September 25 - October 16 in 100 electoral areas of the Republic.

“Although there were many complaints about violations, the delegation has found out that there are improvements in comparison to the elections in 2002”, Mr. O’Brian said.

The correspondent of “Arminfo” asked if he has heard about the pre-election kidnapping of people in Echmiadzin. “We have heard about the kidnapping, but I cannot say anything as we can talk only about what we have seen”. He also added that they will include the Echmiadzin cases in the Standing Committee November 9 report about the RA LGB Elections.

By the way, Sean O’Brian also expressed his gratitude for the Regional Governing Minister Hovik Abrahamyan «for inviting them and supporting their mission».
