VISA FEE ADJUSTMENTS

Politics

On March 8, 2005 fees for U.S. immigrant visas and some other consular services were increased. However, the application fee for a non-immigrant visa to visit the U.S. remains USD 100.

U.S. visa fees are expected to at least partially recover the expenses involved in providing visa services. In recent years costs have gone up. Since September 11, 2001 the U.S. government has introduced many new measures to increase security and prevent fraud. These measures are heavily dependent on high technology, which is expensive.

The special fee for Diversity Visa Lottery winners has been increased to USD 375 in order to cover all of the costs of the Diversity Visa program. Only the winners of the Diversity Visa pay this fee. Applications to register for the Diversity Lottery drawing remain free of charge.
