«The state secures the protection of human rights and freedoms on the basis of the Constitution and laws in accord with the principles and norms of jus gentum», Article 4 of the RA Constitution says. The second chapter of the Constitution provides for fundamental human rights and freedoms of a citizen.

Are human protected in Armenia? We addressed 100 citizens with this question.

No one of those surveyed gave a positive answer. 65% of the respondents consider that human rights in Armenia are infringed in almost all the fields. Mostly the right of property, freedom of speech and immunity are violated. 35% of the respondents consider that rights are protected partly. «If a person is influential, his rights are protected», a young man said. Most of those surveyed hold the opinion that the awareness of the rights allows only partial protection of one's personal rights.

To note, the experts of the Venice Commission in the resolution on the constitutional amendments call the leadership to pay special attention to the following item: «The clauses guaranteeing fundamental freedoms and rights should be worked out on the basis of the European Convention on Human Rights without extra details, which give place to vaguely outspoken restrictions.
