Ampop.am: Decline in agriculture hit the economy
Armenia is one of the countries where per capita GDP is 3 times lower than the international average, amounting to about 3500 US dollars. Armenia is also one of the countries where gross agricultural output dropped in 2016. Decline in agricultural production in Armenia began in autumn 2016. The Ministry of Agriculture says the decline in agricultural output is due to adverse weather conditions, because of which farmers postponed the harvest until November. However, the study of the annual picture of the industry shows that the justification is only relevant for a given period, not for the entire year. In 2016, the agriculture share in economic GDP made 16 percent, which was 1.3% lower than in 2015. The total volume of agricultural products decreased by 5.2%, and that of crop production - by 11.7%. The slowdown of growth in agriculture had a significant impact on economic growth in 2016, making up only 0.5% instead of the planned 2.2%. Ampop.am studied the problems in the agricultural sector and summarized the results here
