Azerbaijan escalated situation on the border to silence its people - Shahin Mirzoyev (video)
The recent tensions on the Karabakh-Azerbaijan border are resulted by Aliyev's domestic policies, says Shahin Mirzoyev, an activist and member of Azerbaijan’s ethnic Talysh minority, who fled Azerbaijan and was granted political asylum by the Armenian authorities. “It is well known that Aliyev appointed his wife [Mehriban] as first vice-president and Minister of Internal Affairs appointed his son as his deputy, which caused public outcry. They aggravated the situation to silence their people,” he said. Mirzoyev understands the Talysh families who have remained in Azerbaijan despite their great desire to leave the country. “A needless word or step and it will mean an end not only for them but also for their relatives,” he said adding that his relatives in Azerbaijan are also in danger. Shahin Mirzoyev says he is threatened every day. Even members of the Azerbaijani parliament offer to execute him as an enemy of the state. Mirzoyev says people in Armenia treated him very well and he is trying to adapt to local life. He thinks the karabakh conflict will be resolved only after the collapse of the Aliyev regime. “The weapon of each and every leader is his people, but Aliyev does not have that weapon,” he said in conclusion.
