“It is normal, there have been some disagreements between the Bright Armenia and Civil Contract,” Suren Papikyan, Vice-Chairman of the Civil Contract party, said today when commenting on Nikol Pashinyan’s criticism of Edmon Marukyan. “Pashinyan, I am citing his words, said that he does not confide in Edmon Marukyan as the latter voted for the government program. There has been no problem with the Bright Armenia in this sense,” Mr. Papikyan said. He says in Vanadzor, the Bright Armenia shows that it is not going to betray its principles. “Judging from the situation in Vanadzor, we can see that the city has got a Republican Mayor who cannot govern the city. That is due to the principle of Chirst and Edmon Marukyan.” Suren Papikyan says the Civil Contract has never wanted to be the only opposition force in Armenia, rather, it wanted to create a single opposition force. "At least three parties have decided to unite in the upcoming parliamentary elections, as we have the vision of Armenia's future for the next five years,” he continued. On Thursday, December 1, the Civil Contract announced that they had met with representatives of the Bright Armenia and Hanrapetutyun (Republic) parties and reached clear agreements on cooperation. Sukias Avetisyan, a representative of the Republican Armenia Party (HHK), welcomed the move of the opposition representatives. “I have said on several occasions that it is time for many parties with similar views to unite. I cannot understand the role of 79 parties in our country. We are very glad that parties unite but we want these unions to survive. But when they take seats in parliament they forget that they have come together and problems with leadership start there. It will be much easier for our people to orientate in that case.”
