Speaking about the October 2 elections in Vanadzor city, opposition lawmaker Aram Manukyan said ‘the types of bribery have become humiliating.’ “Voters were offered bath tickets, tea boxes and glasses that cost AMD 1000,” the lawmaker said in the National Assembly. Opposition lawmaker Nikol Pashinyan said he participated in the Sunday vote as a proxy. “The elections showed once again that the role and significance of the Central Electoral Commission are somewhat exaggerated and misunderstood in the country. There is an influential electoral institute in Armenia but no one speaks about it. That is the institute of centurions and local authorities who have greater influence in their districts and neighborhoods than political forces or the authorities. They act as mediators between the voters and the government, providing tangible or intangible services,” Pashinyan said.
