An act against government's inaction is not crime - lawyer

Supporters of the Sasna Dzrer group condemn court decisions to keep the group members in custody. Today they held a protest outside the National Assembly expressing their solidarity with the group. The participants of the action are surprised at the silence of lawmakers. “We demand that all political prisoners be released. Our demand coincides with that of our people, we want heroes to be called heroes and rascals to be called rascals,” says Alexander Ghumashyan. The lawmakers hurrying to participate in the fall session of the National Assembly had to stop to talk to the citizens gathered at the entrance of the NA building. Political activist Vardges Gaspari was among the group but this time he did not come to talk to the authorities. “I expect the lawmakers from the Armenian National Congress (HAK) to express a clear stance on the group’s actions. Let them not forget that the acting regime came to power through violence and assassinations,” Mr. Gaspari said. Alexander Ghumashyan, the father of Vahagn Ghumashyan who has been in custody for a month, considers his son to be a political prisoner. Lawyer Hovhannes Baghdasaryan draws attention to another fact. Before the surrender of the group members, the National Security Service promised to use incentive provision if Sasna Dzrer laid down their arms and surrendered to law enforcement bodies, while they are still in prison. The lawyer says it has not been proved until now that Sasna Dzrer committed a crime. An act against government's inaction cannot be considered a crime.
