Search of Armenian monastery to be continued on the shore of Issyk Kul (video)
Kyrgyzstan’s Issyk Kul lake is presented on the Catalonian map dating back to 1375. The map is the only source, which proves that a monastery belonging to Armenian brothers was on the shore of the lake, where relics of Matthew the Apostle were kept. Based on this information for more than 150 years different archaeological expeditions have been trying to find the monastery. Until now all the expeditions have examined the northern shore of the lake. Yet Karen Balayan claims that the southern shore must be examined. Until now different Armenian khachkars (cross-stones), Armenian writings have been found, but there has been no immediate proof of the monastery yet. Karen Balayan, founder of Ayas Nautical Research Club, is giving details.
