Information war- Armenia-Azerbaijan (video)
Operative, restrained, literate and balanced. This is the assessment of the experts to the recent work of the local media outlets in the information field. At the same time, they single out some drawbacks: “Both newsmakers, people who make speeches, and media outlets mainly work for the inner market, it means that we write, speak, and make speeches mainly for Armenia,” Information Security Expert Samvel Martirosyan told “A1+”. During these days the Armenian media outlets mainly have been publishing the officially confirmed information. It is another question that in some cases that information wasn’t wholly transparent for security reasons. Yet, some media outlets used Azerbaijani websites as a source of information. In connection with it political expert Karen Kocharyan told “A1+”: “It was warned for multiple times that unclear or especially clear Azerbaijani and Turkish sources shouldn’t have been cited, nothing should have been shared on Facebook, we explained, but, nevertheless, there are still a few people, who cite the Azerbaijani websites and media outlets.” For refraining from using the publications of the opposite side or publishing unclear and inaccurate information, the experts advise to change the relations between the state agencies and media: “For making it more active and dynamic, the MoD and MFA should take up the style of briefings, it means that once or even twice a day they should meet with journalists and answer their questions,” notes Mr Martirosyan. The role of foreign media outlets is also very important in information war. In terms of covering and commenting on the events in Karabakh, says Samvel Martirosyan, the Armenian side was comparatively in more beneficial positions, but another problem comes forward: “A part of the official statements, if not most of them, are made by Artsakh, the role of Armenia in the conflict is not always comprehensible and not always everything is announced by Yerevan, and for many serious foreign media outlets the opposite side of Baku is Yerevan, they don’t perceive Artsakh,” he said. Karen Kocharyan doesn’t share this viewpoint. He thinks that both the Russian, European and American media outlets take into account both this side and the other side. “You should understand that those media outlets serve the interests of their states. One takes into consideration Azerbaijan, the other takes Armenia’s side,” highlights Mr Kocharyan. The latter doesn’t want to underestimate the rival in the propaganda field, but he highlights, “It is clear, those, who work there, aren’t fools, but, in any case, their drawbacks are much more that those in our media outlets.” The experts also add that in the propaganda field, the Armenian side has gained victory.
