Activist Hayk Kyureghyan stops hunger strike
Activist Hayk Kyureghyan, who is charged with hooliganism and using force against a representative of the state, has stopped his hunger strike which he started the Nubarashen prison 27 days ago. The prison administration has upheld the inmate’s request to take him to a separate cell. Kyureghyan is now under medical supervision. Today, a representative of the Ombudsman’s Office visited Hayk to inquire about his condition. During the meeting, Hayk said he had no complaints from the prison administration. Kyureghyan was detained following an incident that occurred on July 12, 2014 before a trial of opposition Tsekhakron Party leader Shant Haroutyunyan and his friends. The young man climbed atop a car in a court yard and shot an air pistol off several times in the direction of the police to protest the way political trials are handled in Armenia.
