Vartan Oskanian: Serious crime took place on December 6
Vartan Oskanian, a member of the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK), has left a Facebook post on the results of the Sunday constitutional referendum in Armenia. I went to the polls in Yerevan; the polling station, I think it was 9/23, was stationed in the building of the Writers’ Union. Of course, I said “No” to the new Constitution. I went to the polls late in the evening to have a clear picture of the number of voters and the process of voting and to talk to people. While a member of the electoral commission was trying to find my name in the register I noticed that barely 30 percent of the voters had voted in the referendum. Today when I heard the official figures of the polling station I understood that I was right in my calculations. There were a total of 1716 voters eligible to vote at Polling Station 9/23. Overall, 469 people cast their votes at this polling station with 103 voting for the government-backed constitutional amendments and 347 saying ‘No’ to the changes. I do believe that the true picture of the Sunday vote would be the same across the republic but for large-scale electoral fraud. Of course, my opinion is not based solely on the results of the vote at this polling station, it is based on the accounts of social media and social networks, videos about irregularities, assessments of observers, and my conversations with many journalists and citizens. I think a most serious crime took place on December 6, which deprived Armenians of the opportunity to express their will and opinion on an important issue concerning the future of Armenia.
