“There are countries in the European Union, which don’t have Constitution, but they are happy and have a strong democratic system,” announced Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia Peter Switalski today during “EU Model 2015” Youth Conference by touching upon the RA constitutional amendments referendum. He noted that it isn’t a business of the EU. “Armenians themselves must decide which system of government they want in their country. They must be free to say ‘yes’ or ‘no’. Let’s speak about the changes brought by the constitutional amendments next year after December 6 referendum,” said Switalski. Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia noted in his speech that there is high possibility that starting from December negotiations will begin between Armenia and the EU. “I hope that by the end of 2016 we will have a new agreement with Armenia, which will also have political importance for Armenia. It will be beneficial for Armenia to show that it has partners also in other countries,” he said and added that the Armenian goods will have an access to the European market as long as Armenia remains committed to the principles of democracy and human rights. Peter Switalski noted that though Armenia didn’t join the EU Association Agreement, the EU respects that decision. “The EU had allocated money for Armenia in connection with the association agreement. Some part of the money can be used even without the association agreement. The EU is a big donor for Armenia. Every week I sign EUR 1 million for Armenia’s governmental and non-government structures,” he summed up.
