Syunik governor's son to be arrested in connection with May 2 assault
The General Department of Investigation of Particularly Important Cases of Armenia’s Investigative Committee continues to investigate a May 2 incident oitside the southeastern town of Goris. All procedural measures are being taken to identify the culprits, determine the level of their involvement in the May 2 assault and give an adequate legal assessment of their actions. Investigative Committee has interrogated at least ten individuals who witnessed or participated in the violence. Among them were brothers Zakaryan, who sustained injuries during the attack, and their parents. Also, the police have been instructed to undertake the necessary intelligence activities to identify the potential witnesses and determine the true scope of individuals involved in the incident. Based on the data obtained during the investigation, different people have been summoned for interrogation. Taking into consideration the public interest in the case, the Investigative Committee says it has decided to issue arrest warrant for those people who did not show up for questioning in the established order. This also refers to Tigran Khachatryan, the notorious son of Syunik Governor Surik Khachatryan. Note: A person suspected in or charged with a criminal offense shall be presumed innocent unless proved guilty in the manner prescribed by Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Armenia and unless the verdict comes into legal force. Tigran Khachatryan was reportedly among several dozen men who beat up and seriously injured brothers Harut and Mushegh Zakaryan outside Goris on May 2. Harut lost vision in one eye while his elder brother Mushegh suffered a broken nose. The brothers claimed that the attackers were led by the 22-year-old Tigran Khachatryan.
