Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Armenia has issued a statement saying the jailed members of the Founding Parliament movement will be set free after giving a written undertaking not to leave the city. “By the order of Armenia’s Prosecutor General, V. Poghosyan, Prosecutor of Investigation Department of Especially Important Cases at the RA Prosecutor General's Office, asked the investigative body to forward him [for review] the case of the jailed members of the Founding Parliament movement, an opposition group seeking regime change in Armenia, who are charged with attempting to organize riots in Yerevan on April 24 - the day marking the centenary of the Armenian Genocide. The study of the case material revealed that starting May 2014 the five leading members of the opposition group - Zhirayr Sefilyan, Pavel Manukyan, Garegik Chukaszyan, Varuzhan Avetisyan and Gevorg Safaryan –had planned to provoke mass disturbances in Yerevan on April 24, 2015, but their actions were prevented by law enforcement agencies. Pursuant to Articles 53, 142 and 151 of Armenia’s Code of Criminal Procedure, the prosecutor in the case decided to substitute the measure of restraint imposed on the Founding Parliament members by cognizance not to leave the city. The decision was made considering the fact that the aforesaid people were unable to complete the crime they had plotted and cannot hinder the pre-trial investigation, if they are at large,” Prosecutor General's Office said in the statement.
