Karabakh war veteran invited to police
Commander of Kornidzor detachment Ara Khudaverdyan was invited by police officers to the police station this morning. Talking to A1+, lawyer Hayk Grigoryan, a member of the Founding Parliament opposition movement, said they periodically speak to Khudaverdyan on the phone and he says ‘everything is all right.’ Hayk Grigoryan says this is not the first time that members and supporters of the Founding Parliament have been invited to police stations and warned against participating in rallies organized by the opposition group. The Founding Parliament is due to rally its supporters in the area near the Erebuni Museum on the outskirts of the city at 6pm. Senior members of Founding Parliament – Zhirayr Sefilyan, Pavel Manukyan, Garegik Chukaszyan, Varuzhan Avetisyan and Gevorg Safaryan -were arrested on April 7 on suspicion of planning to provoke ‘mass disturbances’ at the sites of genocide centenary commemorations on April 24. The Investigative Committee accused the FP members of urging supporters to disobey and even attack security forces on April 24. All were taken into two-month preliminary custody. Another Founding Parliament activist, Aram Hakobyan, was charged with keeping arms and ammunition, but was released on bail pending trial.
