Armenian Foreign Minister joins unity rally for Paris shootings
Armenia’s Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian joined on Sunday over 50 presidents and prime ministers on the streets of Paris in the most striking show of solidarity in the West against terrorism and intolerance. Before the solidarity march, President François Hollande of France received at the Elysee Palace the heads of foreign delegations. Edward Nalbandian conveyed President Hollande the condolences and support of the Armenian president and Armenian people and expressed Armenia’s solidarity with the friendly government and people of France. Responding to terrorist strikes that killed 17 people in France and riveted worldwide attention, more than one million people including Jews, Muslims, Christians, atheists and people of all races, ages and political stripes swarmed central Paris beneath a bright blue sky, calling for peace and an end to violent extremism. The world leaders — including President François Hollande of France, Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel, President Mahmoud Abbas of the Palestinian Authority and Prime Minister David Cameron of Britain — joined the march in a solemn line. They moved slowly, clasping arms to show solidarity with the victims. The crowd roared in approval.
